Second Mile Food Distribution on Oct 29 Saturday 8:30 am

Dear All,

We appreciate all the support that you have provided in the past for for IMC's Neighborhood Mission with Second Mile.

"An estimated 12.7 percent of American households were food insecure at least some time during the year in 2015, meaning they lacked access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members." (USDA, 2016). The Neighborhood Mission was the brainchild of our former Diocesan Bishop Theodosius Thirumeni and we at IMC adopted this calling to our local neighborhood outreach within Stafford. Last year, we have served several thousand meals to families within our communities and through our partnership with Second Mile we continue to carry out this ministry
As advised earlier, we will have our next Neighborhood Mission with Second Mile at our Church's premises on 10/29 at 8:30am. I request your support and volunteering again for this noble cause. We know the India Fest event starts at 11 am and the goal is to complete the food distribution before 11am so we can also participate in the India Fest events. I would appreciate if you could please arrive at the Church by 8:30 am to set up and have a brief discussion on the event. We plan to open the registration to the needy families at 9am.
We need volunteers for the following:

1) Registration: We will need at least a total of 6 individuals and if you speak Spanish please let me know. And at least one person from this group must visit Ms. Sheena Abraham with Second Mile before Friday for instructions related to the Registration Forms. If you know of a deserving family that may benefit from this distribution, please encourage them to contact Second Mile @ (281) 261-9199 and pre-register for the food distribution on 10/29. Their address is: 1135 US-90 ALT, Missouri City, TX 77489. Second Mile does other wonderful services for such needy families. Please also note that all Second Mile clients who arrive to receive the food have been screened and qualify for the food receipt. For non registered (with Second Mile) guests who may come on Saturday, we will have an "in take" form which then transferred to Second Mile for review and reporting to Houston Food Bank and other government agencies. In other words, there is a sound process implemented by Second Mile on registration and we will need to ensure the forms are filled out correctly and sent back to him.

2) Praise & Worship
3) Meet & Greet
4) Food Distribution
5) Traffic Direction: Please note we will be using the Immanuel Center and use the drive way infront of the Center for Food Distribution.
All volunteers that need volunteering hours for school or work, please bring the appropriate forms and Achen will sign the same. I would also appreciate if you could kindly advise your friends and family to come out and support the event.
Thank you in advance and look forward to seeing you on Saturday. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Achen or the office bearers or myself.

Volunteering

In 2015, Immanuel Marthoma Church launched the Neighborhood Outreach program which is designed to provide our church members, including the youth opportunities for volunteering in the local neighborhood.

  • We have teamed with Second Mile Ministries to volunteer in our neighborhood and host onsite food fairs every 5th Saturday at our Church.
  • We have also participated in the Comcast Cares program with the Houston Food Bank.

We have collectively volunteered over 1,400 hours and supported an estimated 6,800 families in 2015

Go Green - Fresh Vegetable Garden

In 2015, in line with the “Go Green” vision of the Metropolitan and our Diocesan Bishop. Due to the tremendous hard-work of Mr. Thomas Mathew and support from many dedicated volunteers, we now have a flourishing garden with fresh vegetables. The Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius toured the gardens during his visit to Immanuel. Fresh vegetables are auctioned off regularly on Sundays after service.

IMTC Neighborhood mission on Comcast Cares day
