    1. Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the ordinances—that the Lord your God charged me to teach you to observe in the land that you are about to cross into and occupy,

    2. so that you and your children and your children’s children may fear the Lord your God all the days of your life, and keep all his decrees and his commandments that I am commanding you, so that your days may be long.

    3. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe them diligently, so that it may go well with you, and so that you may multiply greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has promised you.

    4. Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.

    5. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

    6. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart.

    7. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.

    8. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead,

    9. and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Caution against Disobedience

    10. When the Lord your God has brought you into the land that he swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—a land with fine, large cities that you did not build,

    11. houses filled with all sorts of goods that you did not fill, hewn cisterns that you did not hew, vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant—and when you have eaten your fill,

    12. take care that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

    1. This is the third time I am coming to you. “Any charge must be sustained by the evidence of two or three witnesses.”

    2. I warned those who sinned previously and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again, I will not be lenient—

    3. since you desire proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful in you.

    4. For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.

    5. Examine yourselves to see whether you are living in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless, indeed, you fail to meet the test!

    6. I hope you will find out that we have not failed.

    7. But we pray to God that you may not do anything wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.

    8. For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

    9. For we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong. This is what we pray for, that you may become perfect.

    10. So I write these things while I am away from you, so that when I come, I may not have to be severe in using the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down. Final Greetings and Benediction

    11. Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

    12. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.

    13. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

    26. Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for words.

    27. And God, who searches hearts, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

    28. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

    29. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn within a large family.

    30. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

    22. At that time the Festival of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter,

    23. and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon.

    24. So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”

    25. Jesus answered, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name testify to me,

    26. but you do not believe because you do not belong to my sheep.

    27. My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.

    28. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.

    29. My Father, in regard to what he has given me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

    30. The Father and I are one.”
